Storm Brought Tornado to Houston Area

MISSION BEND, Texas - Forecasters say at least one tornado hit the Houston area during thunderstorms that flooded roads and knocked out power.

The National Weather Service said Tuesday that a tornado with 95 mph winds touched down Monday in Mission Bend, 25 miles southwest of Houston. At least 10 homes suffered damage. No injuries have been reported.

Weather teams are still determining if damage to a mall in Texas City, 40 miles southeast of Houston, was caused by a tornado. Nobody was hurt.

Peck Elementary School in Houston was closed Tuesday due to nearby flooding. The school is scheduled to reopen Wednesday.

CenterPoint Energy reported about 200 customers still without electricity Tuesday afternoon.

Forecasters say snow was ending Tuesday across West Texas. Midland has received nearly 11 inches of snow since Monday.
